‘Schools are perfectly designed for the results we are getting. If we don’t like the results, we need to redesign schools.’ Drawing from decades of character education research, this seminar offers ten framing thoughts to redesign ordinary school elements (e.g., assessments, discipline, relationships) to promote character development, rather than relying solely on additional programs.

An introduction to the PRIMED Model

Description

The PRIMED model is an acronym for six design principles for school improvement that integrate 42 character education effective practices for schools identified in studies, reviews, and meta-analyses from the last quarter of a century. Effective means that these practices are supported by scientific evidence, including statistical tests of the significance of their impact in character development. Rather than specific practices or strategies, these principles are six reminders of what should be considered to design each practice and strategy to effectively transform educational institutions into communities that cultivate moral and civic virtues in strategic and intentional ways.

Class Meetings: Creating a Classroom Environment that Fosters Student Growth.

Class meetings are regular gatherings in the classroom where students and teachers come together to discuss relevant topics, resolve conflicts, and plan activities. Can I access these services if I have not taken any of the programs?

Introductory workshops are offered to all audiences. They are intended to introduce the approach we propose to promote the growth of individuals.

We believe that both consulting and specific support workshops can only bear fruit as part of a long-term strategy of the management team. We are very doubtful about the effectiveness of isolated interventions, especially if what is proposed is a cultural change.
